Kloster Eberbach - Dormitory

This is another view of the former dormitory of the monks at Kloster Eberbach. This room (amongst others at Kloster Eberbach) was part of the film-set of "The Name of the Rose" (book written by Umberto Eco) with Sean Connery.

The small door you see on the right is actually a "magic door" ;) - whenever Sean Connery stepped through it, he ended up in Italy where they filmed the library which supposedly was hidden behind the door.

Check out the other photo of the dormitory on my Rheingau Daily Photo blog.

Any good chocolate receipe?

A little group shot of my chocolate Easter bunnies and (shame on me!) Christmas chocolate...

If they all were made out of dark chocolate they wouldn't exist anymore, but that's not the case, so here I am trying to decide what to do with them...

What do you usually do (besides eating them of course)? Do you have any ideas, receipes?

Kloster Eberbach - Cloister

This is the cloister at Kloster Eberbach, a former abbey in the Rheingau. I somehow always like the atmosphere of these buildings and especially the cloister. It has something very calming to me. Can't put my fingers down on what it is... maybe the absence of a lot of distracting things (noise, other people, etc.), maybe the garden that is in the middle of it (check out the photo of it here), maybe even the repetitive structure of the ceiling...

Women Memorial Labyrinth

This had been an event I ran into by coincidence. I was going to the Kurpark in Wiesbaden on Saturday, when I noticed a lot of women gathering at this spot, all dressed up very differently. I asked one of the women what they were doing and she explained that this was an event called "Frauen-Gedenk-Labyrinth" (Women Memorial Labyrinth).

Women from all over Germany had gathered here, each of them representing a memorable woman from the past. The labyrinth which was layed out in the grass of the park was made of stone plates with their names on them. I saw names like Sophie Scholl, Florence Nightingale, Edith Piaf, Agatha Christie, Clara Schumann, Evita Perron, Hatschepsut, Hildegard von Bingen, and a lot more, some of them known, some not. Alltogether, the labyrinth has 1000 plates like that.

Unfortunately, I couldn't stay for the whole event, but the woman told me that later on they would walk the labyrinth, add new stone plates with new names and leave flowers or mussels on some of their favorite stones.
