Paris: Sainte Chapelle

Sam from Montchauvet recommended to visit the Sainte Chapelle on the Ile de la Cité while we're in Paris and we did. It's an amazing small chapel built 1248 by Louis IX. With wonderful decorations and stunning windows on the second floor. The first floor which you see in the two photos above was meant for the kings servants. The upper floor with the great windows was only meant for the kings and his family. Louis IX had built this chapel to accommodatee relics like the "crown of thorns" he had acquired in 1239. The crown and most of the other relics got lost during the revolution.

Good suggestion! :-) I was just finished putting my Paris photos in flickr so that I can show the slideshow...and in those I have some of these similar photos :-D what a coincidence! Great shots! Isn't the church wonderful? and it's mostly hidden by the building in front of it, what is it again? I can't remember now...Love Paris for this very reason. I'll put my slide up tomorrow...

Nice pictures. :) I am glad you had time to explore so many monuments while in Paris. Sainte Chapelle is indeed one of the Gothic jewel in France. Maya, I believe it is in Paris hall of justice which is in the former medieval royal palace.
