Once upon a time...

One upon a time... there was a little fishermen's town at the baltic see. One day, a mermaid appeared on one of the rocks along the sea, made completely out of bronze. All the inhabitant were quite surprised, since noone knew where it came from. They couldn't find it out, but nevertheless decided that apparantly it was supposed to be theirs. So they started selling postcards, T-Shirts, bags and even little replica of it. And then, all of a sudden, one year later, the little mermaid disappeared again...
This sounds like a fairy tale but it really happened (found this story on SPIEGEL ONLINE).

Really? it's creepy...I bet you someone/this artist go out in the middle of the night to put or remove her...to see what are the reactions of people. Very interesting idea...maybe I'll make myself a statue and put it 'secretly' in one of those rocks in Antibes...:-D Cool finding and story, Nicola...
That's what people have been puzzled about the most - the statue was estimated to be around 100kg heavy which would mean quite an effort to get it there and remove it again. It's surprising, noone has noticed it.
Another thing that shows with this story again is how profit-oriented some people are - without knowing who brought it there, who created it and to whom it belongs, they founded a marketing company which has the publishing rights for the statue now. So anyone who wants to print a picture of it on a postcard for example has to pay them.... Of course they are very upset, that the statue is gone now and have filed an official complaint now... I think that's ridiculous!
that is ridiculous...
